Internal Waterproofing
During the planning and construction of bathrooms, showers, laundries, kitchens, and other areas exposed to high humidity or moisture—commonly referred to as “wet areas”—careful consideration must be given to the selection of wall lining materials. These areas must be constructed to limit water ingress and protect the building structure in accordance with the National Construction Code (NCC).
Suitable wall lining options for wet area applications include water resistant plasterboard and fibre cement board. Water-resistant plasterboard incorporates moisture-resistant additives and is suitable for areas subject to intermittent moisture exposure. Fibre cement sheeting provides a more robust, high-density alternative with enhanced resistance to water and mould, and is typically used in areas of higher exposure or increased durability requirements.
Selection of the appropriate product should be based on exposure conditions, design requirements, and manufacturer installation guidelines.
